3PL carrier exceptions are a support seat, not another AP invoice post

6 min read

Leverwork already has AP seat in a ~40-person 3PL for invoices and accessorials. This post is the other firehose: support — carrier appointment changes, OS&D claims chase, WMS/TMS exception tickets, and the customer email that says "where's my freight" while ops is still on the dock.

The door is the calculator.

The seat, named plainly

In a mid-size 3PL the support / exception person is usually doing some mix of:

  • Carrier appointment reschedules and no-show follow-up
  • OS&D and short-ship claims that need photos, BOL, and a second email
  • Customer exception tickets that are really "status + docs," not a chatbot FAQ
  • Cross-dock / yard exceptions that never hit AP until someone closes the loop
  • The shared inbox that ops managers swear they will clear after peak

That is not invoice coding. Buying another AP seat leaves this queue untouched.

Why owners buy the wrong thing

AP is measurable (aged payables). Exception support is measurable only when a shipper churns or a claim ages past the carrier window. Owners already pay someone — often a coordinator who also covers phones. Leverwork deploys a worker against that role. It is not a tracking widget and not a template.

The owner math (illustrative, labeled)

One logistics exception / CS coordinator, fully loaded, often sits in the same band as other mid-ops admin seats.

Live Standard: Talk to us for current pricing, up to 2 FTE roles. Target go-live: about 30 days from kickoff. Your timeline is set in your SOW.

Illustrative (not a client result): if Standard covers carrier exceptions and a second adjacent seat (claim packet assembly, appointment desk), you are comparing one partnership to two fragmented salaries. Run the shop's wages in the calculator.

If WMS + TMS + customer portals all have to agree under one operating view, that is often Complex (Talk to us).

Who this is for

Owners of 20–80 person 3PLs / logistics shops who already pay for an exception or customer-ops seat. Not mega hubs with a 200-person control tower. Not CPA firms. For the AP/accessorials seat, see the 3PL AP post.
